FAQ for participants

Here you will find answers to most questions about participating and applying for the Joseph Joachim Competition 2024.

How can I submit my application?

Fill out the application form from 02.01.24 to 31.03.24 and upload the required documents and your application video. Please note that the form can be saved temporarily on one computer, but cannot be processed on another computer.
In order to be able to process the application form with interruptions, please accept the cookies and continue filling out the form at a later time after the interruption. Please note that the form cannot be processed on another computer after a break.

Is it possible to play the same piece by Franz Schubert in the application video and in the preliminary round 2?

Yes, that is possible.

Does the work by Bartok have to be recorded in one take in the application video?

Yes, the video must not be cut between the movements, it has to be recorded in one take and thus resembles a concert situation.

What can I do if I have technical problems with my application (upload)?

If you encounter technical problems during the online application, you must inform the Competition office about the problem as soon as possible by sending an e-mail to artists@jjv-hannover.de so that the application can nonetheless be formally accepted on time. In order to avoid, as far as possible, any technical problems, it is strongly recommended that candidates start uploading videos at least 48 hours before the deadline for applications. 

Where do I have to transfer the money for the registration fee and by when?

The registration fee of EUR 100.00 must be transferred after admission to the competition and invitation  to the account of the organizer.

The money must be transferred by June 15, 2024.

When do I receive the commissioned work?

The commissioned work will be sent digitally on June 27, 2024.

When will I receive the theme for the recital?

The theme will be communicated to all participants on August 2, 2024. It will be selected by the artistic directors.

When do I have to submit my program for the recital?

The program must be submitted by 19 August 2024 at the latest, together with an explanation suitable for publication in the program booklet (600-900 characters). Further information will be sent to the participants personally.

Until when can I change my repertoire?

The repertoire must be finally confirmed on August 19, 2024. Please communicate all changes collectively on August 19, 2024.

When do I need to arrive in Hanover?

All participants must register in person at the competition office in Hanover on September 14, 2024 and can then attend an audition in the concert hall. Arrival in Hanover should therefore take place on September 13, 2024 at the latest.

Where will I be staying overnight?

All participants will be accommodated free of charge with families in Hanover from September 13 to 29, 2024. On request, the organizing team will arrange hotel accommodation for participants and accompanying persons, to be paid for by the participants themselves.

Will travel expenses be reimbursed?

All participants are entitled to a travel allowance. Reimbursement will be made on presentation of travel documents in Hanover. The reimbursement amount is equal to the cheapest flight or train connection between the place of departure/arrival and Hanover and back as determined in Germany on July 1, 2024.
Due to our sustainability concept, we do not reimburse any costs for flights within Germany, unless they are transit flights.

When will the performance order be announced?

The order will be drawn on September 15, 2024.

How many rehersals are possible per round?

Preliminary round 1: The acoustic rehearsal for the hall in the preliminary round is 20 minutes
Preliminary round 2: One rehearsal with pianist

Semifinal 1: 80 minutes rehearsal, 30 minutes audition - both with the Munich Chamber Orchestra
Semifinal 2: At least 90 minutes solo/duo rehearsal, 60 minutes quartet rehearsal and 60 minutes dress rehearsal for the recital in a rehearsal room

Final: On 26 and 27.09.2024 80 minutes rehearsal each with the NDR Radiophilharmonie

How should I play the repetitions?

Please play the repetitions as you would in concert on stage.
