Tongyeong Concert Hall
A world away from the hectic metropolis of Seoul, Tongyeong is called the „Naples of Korea“ for its beautiful marine surroundings, its many islands and waterways, its lively port town atmosphere and its famous seafood. It is a city of culture, of the arts and of music, being the home of many distinguished artists. In 2015 Tongyeong was designated as a UNESCO Creative City of Music.
Celebrating its 17th year in 2018, Tongyeong International Music Festival is being considered one of the most influential and well respected music festivals in Asia. Called „the Salzburg Festival of Asia“ by the German Frankfurter Allgemeine Newspaper, it pays tribute to the music of Isang Yun - who was born here in 1917.
It aims to foster young composers and performers and has a strong focus on contemporary music.
The festival venue, Tongyeong Concert Hall, is a state-of-the-art concert hall with 1300 seats and perfect acoustics in a spectacular location overlooking the sea. Along with a small black box hall and other performance spaces, it was opened in 2014 and has become one of the most prominent venues in the country.
